A Texas showdown has been setup for today at 10 a.m. in the second round of the Babe Ruth League 16-18-year-old Southwest Regional baseball tournament in Denham Springs, La.

The Tri-County All-Stars (South Texas) will face off against the East Texas squad (Wharton area) after both teams picked up opening-round wins on Friday.

Tri-County scored a solo run in the top of the seventh to pull out a 4-3 win over Louisiana Vidalia, while three pitchers combined on a two-hitter as East Texas blanked South Arkansas Lonoke 6-0.

Earl Jones, Drew Quinney and Jason Laake, all of Weimar, paced Tri-County's offensive attack.

Laake was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Quinney was 3-for-3 and Jones 2-for-4 with a double.

Yoakum's Covey Morrow picked up the win in relief.

Also on the Tri-County squad from Yoakum are Cullen Harper and Aaron Molnosky, while Brandon Williams and Jordan Williams represent Flatonia.

Joining Laake, Quinney and Jones from Weimar on the team is Chance Kansteiner.

Also on the squad are Marshall Sevcik of Hallettsville Sacred Heart and Eric Schrader of Schulenburg.

Taylor Ustinak worked four innings of no-hit ball for East Texas, while Jordan Calhoun of wharton provided all the offense the team would need.

Calhoun had a double and drove in three runs, while Austin Wozniak of Wharton and Ryan Hernandez of Richmond each had two hits.

The other four teams in the bracket include North Arkansas/NW Arkansas, West Texas Yoakum County, Mississippi Helena and the host PARDS.
